THADDEUS STEVENS COLLEGE RECEIVES GRANT FROM STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

College of Technology Awarded Money for Migrant Education College Camp

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology was recently named as the recipient of a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  The grant is to be used in conjunction with the Summer Migrant Education College Camp held at the college each year.

The aim of the Summer Migrant Education College Camp program is to expose migrant education students with an opportunity to explore one or two weeks in a technical or liberal arts college. This is to serve as motivation in considering or pursuing a college degree in that area upon their high school graduation.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has designated money to be dispersed among the Program Directors throughout the state to be used for the summer camp programming.  Stevens has been involved with offering a summer experience camp program to Migrant Education High School students for 5 years.

Each year Stevens was awarded the grant along with other colleges.  In 2007, however, funding was cut and each camp director was asked to submit detailed information regarding past and current programs offered at their college.  Stevens was the only school to receive funding for the summer camp in 2007.  The grant, which was increased this year, was once again awarded to Stevens.
