Aryana Luciano, a Graphic Communications & Printing Technology major, has been working at the Lancaster Print House during the Summer of 2025. Lancaster Print House, a leading screen printing facility on the East Coast, takes a unique approach to apparel production through intense research and development and cutting-edge technology.
We asked Aryana to share about her experience.
How did you find out about your in-field work experience opportunity?
I first learned about this opportunity during a guided tour my teacher customized for our program. One of the stops was the Lancaster Print House and I immediately became interested in what they were doing.
What does your day-to-day look like?
My daily tasks mostly involve handling the production side of custom t-shirts. I start by printing tags with the company logo of whomever placed the order. After that, I carefully sew the tags into the shirts, making sure they’re positioned correctly. Once that’s done, I fold each shirt neatly and prepare it for packaging. Its repetitive, and requires attention to detail and focus.
What is something you were surprised to learn in your time at work?
I was honestly surprised by how critical precision is in screen printing. I didn’t realize that something as simple as a half-inch difference in placement could throw off the entire look of a shirt and its design.
What’s been something challenging in this in-field work experience?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was getting the placement right when tagging shirts or setting them up for printing. Not all garments are sewn perfectly straight, so you can’t rely entirely on the seams to guide your placement.
What’s been the best thing about your in-field work experience?
The best part has been improving my skills for printing and learning how to hand-tag shirts and how to sew on sleeve tags as well.
Share a story about something that happened one day as part of your time working in the field?
One day I had to prep more than 300 shirts for printing. Each one needed to be prepressed, tagged, folded, and counted.
Would you recommend seeking out an in-field work experience to other students at TSCT?
Absolutely, I would recommend it. It helps you get a foot into the business and helps you learn what you can do with your major, or possibly a potential employer.
How do you think this experience will help you in your future?
This experience helped me narrow down my interests within my field. It helped me see what I wanted to do more with my major if I wanted to go into press printing, graphic design, or screen printing.
