City & State Pennsylvania has recognized Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology President Pedro A. Rivera II, Ed.D., on its 2025 Labor Power 100 list, celebrating leaders who drive opportunity, workforce development, and family-sustaining wages across the Commonwealth.
A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Rivera has dedicated his career to advancing equity and access in education. Before joining Stevens College in 2020 as the institution’s 10th president, he served as Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education. Today, he also serves on the Pennsylvania State Board of Education, where he chairs the Council of Higher Education, and contributes as a member of the newly formed State Board of Higher Education.
Under his leadership, Thaddeus Stevens College continues to expand its impact, training the next generation of skilled workers who power Pennsylvania’s key industries. From plumbers and pipefitters to technicians and technologists, the College’s graduates are prepared for essential careers that not only meet industry needs but also provide family-thriving wages.
The Labor Power 100 list recognizes leaders across education, healthcare, construction, energy, and beyond – individuals who champion workers and strengthen the state’s economy. Dr. Rivera’s inclusion highlights both his lifelong commitment to equitable educational access and Thaddeus Stevens College’s role as a vital workforce partner for Pennsylvania.
