Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology has opened the Steinman Community Learning Center, a new facility designed to expand access to childcare, hands-on STEM learning opportunities, and community resources for Lancaster County families.
The Center reflects the College’s commitment to creating access to opportunity and strengthening the communities it serves. By bringing together family support services, educational programming, and community gathering space, the facility creates new pathways for learners of all ages while helping address needs identified throughout the region.
The 14,000-square-foot facility includes a childcare center operated by Community Action Partnership, flexible community space, and dedicated STEM learning environments. Together, these resources support a shared goal of helping individuals and families access the tools and opportunities needed to thrive.
Access to affordable, high-quality childcare remains a challenge for many families. The childcare center, which has the capacity to serve up to 50 children, increases access to early childhood education while connecting families with additional resources through Community Action Partnership’s Thrive to Five initiative. The program supports children during their earliest years while helping parents and caregivers pursue educational and career goals.
The Center also creates new opportunities for young learners to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on experiences. The second floor serves as a dedicated STEM learning space where students can engage with robotics, coding, automation, advanced manufacturing concepts and other interactive activities designed to spark curiosity and build confidence.
Through the STEM at Stevens Career Workshop and other educational programs, participants will gain exposure to technologies used in today’s workforce while developing skills that support future academic and career success. The programs align with the College’s belief that hands-on learning can help learners discover new interests, build technical skills and explore pathways to high-demand careers.
In addition to supporting children and families, the Center was designed to serve as a resource for the broader community. Schools, nonprofit organizations, employers and community partners will have opportunities to use the space for meetings, programs and collaborative initiatives that strengthen connections across Lancaster County.
